The Zonta Club of
New Rochelle sponsored their Second Annual Golf for Greenhorns
Event on Saturday, September 15th, 2007 at 10:00 AM. The
event took place at the Dunwoodie Golf Course in Yonkers, N.Y.
Participants took part in a golf clinic, received golf shirts
and enjoyed a luncheon.
Golf for Greenhorns
raised over
$1500 top support Desda's Grate: a home for homeless women and
their children located in New Rochelle. Desda's Gate was
founded by our member Sister Mary Alice Hannan OP. News
Channel 12 served as our program sponsor for the second year in
a row.
The
goal of the tournament was to introduce people of all ages to
golf. Our youngest participant was only three years old.
We had five teenagers: two from Cristo Rey NY High School; and
two college women, Vanessa Kemp of Fordham University, and
Amielle Parker of Barnard College. We are particularly
interested in encouraging young women to learn the sport as a
means of advancing themselves in the world of work.
Our guest
speaker was the Honorable Janet Jordan, a magistrate with the
Westchester County Courts, who gave the keynote address on her
work enforcing parental support in the legal system. |
